The turnover for Z-bloc Norden 2003 was about 370.000 Euro. Z-bloc Norden (http://www.zblocnorden.com) was started in 2001. The Company manufacture and market a patented invention for noise control on railways, highways and other high noise areas. The invention is a screen design that can be mounted rather close to the track and thereby give very high insertion loss (5-10 dB(A)-units) despite the low height. The close fitting screen invention has been installed on several railway sites in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe. The production of the screen has mainly been outsourced to different subcontractors.
The patented screen design also includes sound absorbing material that mainly consists of granulated scrap car tyres, which are bonded together with special environmentally friendly glue. The material has been found to be highly durable, well suited for outdoor use and other severe environments and can resist high mechanical stress without damage. This durability also means that it can be cleaned with high pressure water cleaning devices. The material in Z-Bloc products has potential to be further more developed, too be used new applications such as low screens for road traffic etc.
