Akron

Akron (http://www.akron.be) is a SME specialised in system integration and sales of noise and vibration software and hardware. It is the partner of the German company Wölfel for the development and sales of the IMMI software for environmental noise modelling in the BeNeLux countries. IMMI is one of the leading European software to be used for establishing noise plans as requested by the European Directive CE/2002/49. Akron was one of the partners in the European contract for developing the AR-Interim Calculation Methods for the Directive. Further Akron participated in the development of the Brussels Noise Plan by data acquisition and modelling of train, tram and bus data. Currently Akron tendered for the contract to evaluate the relation between individual noise abatement measures and global noise reduction plans for the Belgian Federal government. Akron will carry out work on the evaluation of the SRM II model, modelling improvements and project interfacing.

Proposed project members are:
- P. Blanckaert: engineer specialised in noise modelling;
- Ph. Bouché: senior engineer specialised in measurement techniques.

Akron will participate in this project in the SP1 and SP3 dealing with:
- evaluation and hot spot selection of Brussels, Antwerp, Paris and Caen noise maps;
- evaluation and solution of short-comings in the SRM II calculation of railway noise;
- measurement and evaluation of solutions and demonstration projects for hot spot solutions;
- integration of solutions and action plans for railways in AR-Interim modelling software.

Participation of Akron in this project will enhance its knowledge and strength for future noise modelling projects in BeNeLux countries and abroad. The knowledge gained in the project will also be integrated in the IMMI software.
